Faceting

Tutor: John Milner

The faceting course teaches the process of cutting rough natural or synthetic, generally transparent materials, into a variety of shapes to bring out their lustre, brilliance, scintillation and dispersion. You will learn to use the club’s faceting machines and equipment. The first stone for faceting is provided.

Faceting rough includes natural materials such as sapphire, spinel, topaz and quartz and synthetics such as cubic zirconia.

A variety of patterns can be used to create round, oval, square or rectangular gemstones. Other more challenging patterns are also available.

The finished product is suitable for use in jewellery or for personal adornment.
